FAST CAT 5K CROSS COUNTRY RACE - Estero High School

Cross country races are difficult ot cover due to the speed of the runners and the course.

I get there early and document pre-race activities and then find a position at the starting line to capture the runners anticipation. I photograph the actual start and the runners heading off to the course. This race was a 5K run (3 miles) so I then went to the finish line to capture the winner(s) and the emotions of completeing the race.

There are usually a lot of congratulation shots and trophy presentations. This race was open to the public and several running clubs were competeing. The wirnner was a 17 year-old student from the area.

Runners gather prior to the start of the 5K cross country race. Over 300 runners participated in the event.

Estero High School cross coruntry coach, Jeff Sommers is a big part of the racing community and is personally involved in encourgaging race participants.

Runners off all ages came to Estero High to compete in the 5k (3 mile) cross country race.

17 year-old Marshall Dillion finished first with a time just over 6 minutes. Other young runners were not far behind.

The finish line is an excellent location to catch the emotion of the race.

These events are held year around and attendace is always high.
